Fashion

When I think of the kind of clothes I wish I could wear in Italy, I think of Tory Burch's Resort 2010 collection. Check out her runway looks and lookbook - I am in love. Tory Burch Resort 2010

A cool dress by Anna Sui (love the boots too)

I'm also a huge fan of Free People. It's expensive but definitely my first choice if I was handed a thousand dollars to shop..

One month..

approximately one month until Florence <3

Why can't they actually make this movie :(  :(  :(

Freedom

So, I should maybe go to sleep since I need to wake up and pack my entire dorm room into the van. I'm done with finals, freeee (something everyone else finds very annoying). It's great.

I know of three other people going to Florence, it will be so strange to see them on the streets with the Italians.

Listen to Serani - No Games
Not quite the chill Jamaican guy I pictured singing when my Jamaican roommate played this song 10 times a day Freshman year. But now I love it :)

Have a fantastic day!

Etsy

My friend Chelsea (check out simpletakes.com) referred me to the website Etsy.com. I found so many unique gifts to give family and friends for Christmas. It's kind of hard to navigate the site, because there's SO MUCH on there. But all the items are homemade or vintage or created in some way by the seller. You can shop by category, but there are thousands of dresses, for example, in the clothing category. One of the coolest features is the original art for sale. You can buy all kinds of interesting pieces. I love film photography and polaroids. When I decorate my future apartment, I want to buy tons of polaroid/photographs from here to decorate my walls:) Chelsea hopes to sell her photographs on Etsy.
The site's like rummaging through a yard sale, thrift store or one of the packed Forever 21's. Lots of gems, hard to find.
A few intriguing items:

Sushi Ring!
Wedding dress. BEAUTIFUL
Fish earrings : )
hippie hemp "sandals"
preeeetty dress
photographer's self portrait
Film photography

“Your husband is a mushy ol’ pile of rot.”

If you haven't seen Parks and Recreation, start watching now! It's similar to The Office, but with Amy Poehler and even more hilarious. The above quote is from one of my favorite episodes: 94 Meetings

Politics

I attended the Alex Sink election night party in Tampa at the Marriott downtown. I loved it! There were all kinds of people - formally dressed to punk. All races/beliefs and the party was beautifullll. So much energy! I went for journalism to interview people but it made me wish I was more into politics. Now I'm pumped for the Democrats to win for governor! At the moment, Rick Scott is leading with 50% of votes while Alex has 47%. 81% of votes have been reported. I'm not a huge fan of her personally (although I'm also fairly uneducated) but it's inspiring to see how many different kinds of people she's affected. We spoke to the owners of Ybor City, (who knew it was owned?) two gay men who run a store there. As a Democrat, Sink supports gay rights which I definitely appreciate. I met some interesting, open-minded people. I thought if they were all there - she must be doing something right!

I followed Florida elections for class, but the party tonight made me take a second look at politics. I didn't follow Pennsylvania at all.

next day UPDATE: Sink lost to Scott : (  I stayed up til 4 am but didn't find out she lost until the next morning. He had 49% of votes while Sink had fricken 48%. According to CNN, only 90% of votes have already been counted? But he still has majority.

It's in the Water

This isn't my favorite Kings of Leon song, but I love the feel of the camera, the land, the kids, and the water. It's visually hazy yet bright, golden and joyful. I love water.
And the chorus ...

Its in the water, Its in the story of where you came from

Your sons and daughters in all their glory its gonna save her

And when they crash and come together, and start rising
Just drink the water where you came from, where you came from

Always remember your roots, and the friends, family and animals you started out with : ) The land.

Speaking of Kings of Leon (my favorite if you haven't noticed) I love these lyrics to "The Bucket":

I'll be the one to show you the way

You'll be the one to always complain

Cancel the thing that I said I'd do
I don't feel comfortable talkin' to you
'Less you got the zipper fixed on my shoe

Then I'll be in the lobby drinking for two

Usually I love their lyrics because they rarely make any sense : )

Italia

This blog was inspired because (fingers crossed) I'll be leaving for ITALY in FOUR months. !!!
And because I deleted my Facebook. It was freeeeing, but at the same time I'm going through withdrawal.

I'm probably the only young adult without a digital camera. I've never really been interested - I figure everyone else will take the pictures for me. Now that I can't keep up with my friends' photographs on Facebook...and because I'll need to remember Italy... it may be time to get a camera. I'd prefer an older, more artistic model. Especially in Florence!

My dream camera: an old Polaroid. With the white borders. And the wonderful instancy. Too bad the original film is no longer made. The newest Polaroid model prints business-size photographs - not quite what I'm looking for.

Until I leave for Florence, (once again, FINGERS EFFING CROSSED) I'll occasionally update the blog with whatever's on my mind.
